Anna E. Newman, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. She was born on June 19, 1921 in Plummer, Minnesota the daughter of Elo and Olga (Matta) Maki. Anna graduated from Rowe High School Class of 1939. She would marry the love of her life, Louis M. Newman on February 2, 1945 in New York City.
Family always came first with Ann. She loved to cook, bake bread, rolls, nisua, cookies, birthday cakes & prepare family dinners. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, weaving rag rugs on her loom, watching the Indians, feeding the birds, and being a good friend, always willing to lend a hand. Ann was proud of her family and was truly a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Mrs. Newman is survived by her daughters, Luanne (Eric) Laakso and Rebecca Armstrong; sister, Marian Mid Plank; grandchildren, Chad (Amy Giannell) Armstrong, Jaymee (Jonathan) Vest, Trudi (Butch) Nickels, Jack Newman, Jr., Jessica Newman and Jeremy Newman; great-grandchildren, Bexslynn and Sawyer Vest; sister-in-law, Bertha Maki; and dear friends, Edna Schultz, Tracie Landis and Sue Kennedy-Shugerts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Louis Newman in 2008; sisters, Alma Schaeffer and Martha and Linda Maki in infancy; brother, Jack Maki; and a son-in-law, Lyn Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held, Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 5:00 P.M., at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut with Pastor Joyce Shellhammer, officiating. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 PM until time of services at 5PM. Private burial will be held at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Conneaut Food Pantry; or the Conneaut Human Resources; or Hospice of the Western Reserve in Center in Annas memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
