Audrey's Story

Audrey Jean (Arbuthnot) Cavalancia, 82, of Eldersburg, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. She was born August 27, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harry and Mary Arbuthnot.
Along with her late husband Domenick, Audrey lived in Ashtabula from 1957-1999. Together they would move to Eldersburg, Maryland, to be closer to their grandchildren.
Audrey, known to many of her former students as "Mrs. C," graduated from Clarion State Teachers College (Clarion University), and was a teacher for the Youngstown Catholic Diocese for 29 years. She taught primarily at St. Joseph Catholic School, now known as St. John School in Ashtabula. In addition, she was a Girl Scout Leader and served as the co-director of the Lake to River Girl Scout Core Camp at Camp Sugarbush in Kinsman, Ohio, alongside Domenick for twelve plus years.
Audrey ultimately loved spending time with her grandchildren, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, cooking pasta dishes, in addition to making her famous German Chocolate Cake and French Toast for her family and friends. As an avid traveler throughout her years, she ventured to nearly all 50 states with the exception being Oregon and Washington. She was active in her church, cooking for the poor or playing cards on Wednesdays, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Eldersburg, MD. Audrey also loved her water aerobics and socialization at the pool almost every day with her friends.
Audrey is survived by her three children: Susan (Adrian) Powell of Ashburn, Virginia; Daniel (Lori) Cavalancia Sr., of Uniontown, Ohio; Karen (Victor) Magalotti of Sykesville, Maryland; her nine grandchildren: Daniel Jr., Jamie, Karla, Tricia, Valerie, Katrina, Adrian Jr., Dominique, Gabrielle; One brother, Harry (Barbara) Arbuthnot.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Domenick Cavalancia; and her parents.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, February 10, at Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5864 Heckert Rd. Bakerstown, PA, 15007 from 9-10:30 AM. A Mass will follow at St. Victor Catholic Church 527 Bairdford Road, Bairdford, PA, 15006 at approximately 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park, Cheswick, PA. Lunch to follow at Atria's Restaurant 5517 William Flinn Hwy, Gibsonia, PA, 15044.
