Lefty was extremely proud to have served his county and honored to have served his community as well. He was very active in the Democratic Party in Ashtabula, serving as Vice-President of City Council in 1976, and Secretary of the Ashtabula Port Authority for 33 years,
While in the Army, he played baseball in Munich, Germany becoming one of the leading top prospects for his left-handed pitching and hitting abilities, known for his fierce slider; however, a permanent shoulder injury ended his baseball career.
Lefty was very involved in Little League and served as a coach for over 40 years; he loved his kids, held many team pool parties at his home, enjoyed talking baseball, politics, the Cleveland Indians, and many stories of his Army days!
