Charles Benton, 92, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
Charles was born on November 24, 1924, in Union County, Arkansas, to Armster and Mennie (White) Benton. At the age of 19, his pursuit of better opportunities led him to Ashtabula in 1944.
Though Charles was employed as a custodian with Linde Air, his true work was fulfilled as the patriarch of his family. He took pride in teaching life lessons, imparting wisdom and supporting his children and grandchildren in their endeavors. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his friends, cutting hair, gardening and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Indians.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Deanna (Willie) Hughes of Greensboro, N.C.; Fredia Benton and Lauren Benton of Ashtabula; 11 Grandchildren; 31 Great-Grandchildren; and a host of Great-Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Dorothy (Siler) Benton; daughters, Jean Turner and Barbara Whipple; and siblings, J.T. Benton, T.J. Benton, Emma Dixon and Fannie L. Robinson.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Ashtabula County Nursing Home and Hospice of the Western Reserve for the loving care they provided.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services at 12 NOON at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W.
