Clyde's Story

Clyde W. Huskonen, age 81, of Ashtabula, passed away Monday, March 7, 2017, at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born April 14, 1935, in Williamsfield, Ohio, to Hugh Huskonen and Lavaughn Huskonen.
He is surived by his wife of 55 years, Bette Huskonen; sister, Joyce White of Andover; daughters, Janice (Steve) Schultz of Hudson, Ohio, Cheryl Sedmak of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Terri Kirk of Warren, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Thomas Gillispie, Samantha Carino, Alexandra Shultz, Jamie Shutz, Windy Huskonen, Kevin Huskonen, Benjamin Sedmak, Stefanie (David) Wood, Larry Kirk, and Terri Kirk; 24 great-grandchildren; and 9 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both parents; and son, Clyde W. Huskonen Jr.
Clyde graduated from Williamsfield High School, class of 1953. He was raised on a dairy farm in Williamsfield, and always enjoyed gardening and raised all his flowers and vegetables from seed every year. He was proud of having earned Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. He started his own businesses, "Old Volks Home" and "Huskonen's Foreign Auto" in Ashtabula. He enjoyed many outdoor activities: boating, fishing, bird watching, camping, photography, beer and wine making. He enjoyed music and meeting and talking to new people wherever he went. He was an active member of the Saybrook Grange and he followed auto racing. He was the head mechanic for Huff's Auto Racing and chief inspector at Nelson Ledges Race Track in Warren, Ohio, for years.
