Dale Robert Sackett, 73, of Sheffield Twp., passed away unexpectedly at home, Monday, September 25, 2017.
He was born July 22, 1944 in Ashtabula, the son of the late Lawrence and Anna Mary (Pettit) Sackett. Dale graduated from Jefferson High School and remained a lifelong area resident.
Dale drove truck for Frank Fortune Grocery Company for 27 years. He retired as the Road Superintendent and Sexton of Sheffield Twp. after 19 years. He also served as a township trustee. Altogether he gave over 30 years of service to Sheffield Township.
He was also co-owner of Sackett's Lonely Oak Drafts in Sheffield offering wagon rides for private events. Dale loved his draft horses and greatly enjoyed taking them out for parades and events. He most recently used them to escort the ladies from the Grape Jamboree Court and received 1st place in the parade.
Dale is survived by his longtime companion, Mary Robak; children, Byron (Laura) Sackett, Steve (Judy) Sackett, Cheri (Mike) Hamper; and Michael (Lisa) Sackett; grandchildren, Brett Sackett, Michael Hamper III, Nicole, Katelyn, Daniel, and Rebecca Sackett; siblings, Berel Sackett, Kristine (Michael) Miller, and David (Karen) Sackett.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11Am at the Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 1071 SR 7, Pierpont. Burial will follow at Gageville Cemetery in Sheffield Township.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
