Orwell Daniel G. Zygmunt, age 87, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at home with his family by his side. Born on July 2, 1930 in Cleveland the son of Marion Joseph and Anna Maria (Klimek) Zygmunt.
He was married to Helen M. (Krutschnitt) Zygmunt on August 12, 1950. Daniel retired from Copperweld Steel after 36 years of service as a Crane Operator. He was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Orwell for 72 years. A member of the Mens Social Club, served on the church council and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5589, serving as treasurer for over 30 years. In addition to being a Fourth Degree Knight of the Bishop A. McFadden Assembly #0819, he also served as the secretary of the Union of Poles and on the Zoning Committee for the Village of Orwell. He was an athlete, having excelled at basketball and baseball, a talented musician where he played saxophone and clarinet in the Family Polka Band. He loved fishing, traveling, boating, bowling, dancing and watching the Cleveland Cavs and Indians. He was Jack of all Trades who most of all loved being with his family.
Survivors include his wife Helen, daughters Linda (Michael) Papirtis of Parker Colorado, Karen (Robert) Onder of Twinsburg, and Rosemary Scribben of Roaming Shores, brother Jerome (David Cohen) Zygmunt, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Joanne Zygmunt, grandson Jason Scribben, four brothers Joseph, Arthur, John and Lawrence Zygmunt and two sisters Martha Ewaska and Helen Zygmunt.
A Funeral Mass officiated by Rev. John P. Madden will be held at St. Mary Church, 103 N. Maple Street, Orwell, OH 44076 on Thursday, December 7th, 11:00 am. Visitation will take place at the Paine Funeral Home, Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH on Wednesday, December 6th 4:00 6:45 pm. At 7:00 pm a Knights of Columbus honors service will be conducted.
