Evelyn Whitmire Evelyn Erie Gore Whitmire, 90 of Holden Beach, passed away on November 5, 2017. Mrs. Whitmire was born January 6, 1927 to the late Lenox and Amanda Long Gore. Mrs. Whitmire was a member of Geneva Assembly of God in Geneva, Ohio. She was always very active in her church and community. She ran a home day care and fostered many children. In 1951 she and her husband moved to Geneva Ohio where they lived and raised their family. They retired and returned to Brunswick County in 1984. Preceding her in death was her husband Tom Whitmire; a brother Limburg Gore, a sister Dixie Pearl Gore; two step-sisters; three step-brothers; and a granddaughter, Tara Whitmire Severnio. Survivors include her eight children, Charles Whitmire and wife Selena, Delorise Robinson and husband Phillip, Polly Van Steen and husband Don, Jamie Whitmire, all of Supply, Daniel Whitmire of Austinburg, Ohio, Molly Whitmire King and husband Carlton of Calabash, Holly Whitmire Murchie and husband Kevin of Charlotte, and Patty Johnson Hardee and husband David of Gastonia; two foster children, Jeanette Harrell and husband Chris, and Mary Ayala; seventeen grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in the White Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Gurganus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.
