Francis G. Cole

April 23, 1929 - March 28, 2009

LANCASTER, Calif. — Francis “Frank” George Cole, age 79, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, in California. Born April 23, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, he grew up in Thompson and also lived in Illinois, Arizona and California. A Veteran, he served with the Navy Seabees in Korea from 1948-1952. After the military, he worked as a butcher in the meat packing houses of Chicago before coming back to build his home on part of the farm of his childhood and manage the meat departments for Fisher Foods in Painesville and Geneva. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (Cordrey) Cole; mother, Lucy (Cover) Cole; second mother, Anna (Schwitzler) Cole; father, Roy Harold Cole; sister, Doris; brother, James; and nephew, David Ferguson. Survived by a son, Frankie Jr. (Chris) of California; daughters, Laura Cole Battin of California and Joanie Durham (Dave) of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Ferguson of Madison, Frances Griffin of Thompson and Virginia Popp (Lou) of Perry; brother, Roy Harold Cole Jr. (Barb) of Des Plaines, Ill.; and numerous nieces, nephews and greats, who all loved him dearly. Through all his life, he never lost his values, his humor, or his religion. Service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 9th, at the Thompson United Methodist Church, on the Square in Thompson, Ohio, Route 528. Burial will be at Maplegrove Cemetery, Thompson Leroy Road. Following the service, a Gathering for Family and Friends will meet at the American Legion Post # 112 on Middle Ridge Road in Madison, Ohio. Obituary and condolences at starbeacon.com
