Dr. Gregory Faulkner, 70, of Madison, passed away peacefully, March 17, 2017, at Lake Pointe Health Center in Lorain, after a lengthy illness. He was born July 15, 1946, in Cleveland. Greg was a graduate of Mentor High School. Mr. Faulkner married the love of his life, Barbara Taylor, in Euclid on October 25, 1969.
Greg graduated in 1970, from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine with a doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, he and his new bride moved to Madison and opened Madison Veterinary Hospital, and successfully operated the business in Madison for 45 years before retirement in 2015.
Over the years, Dr. Faulkner was a true hero to many families, saving many of their furry family members. In the early days of his practice, business was so slow that he and his wife spent more time playing pool than seeing patients, but the practice eventually grew into a fixture of the Madison community. In 2015, he was honored for his service to the community by being named "Business of the Year" by the Madison-Perry Chamber of Commerce. He was also a supporter of the Madison Public Schools.
Greg studied the martial art of Aikido for decades and achieved the rank of 5th degree black belt. He taught classes at his dojo and traveled for seminars. He was also active for many years in Friendship Connection, an organization that pairs volunteers with developmentally disabled individuals.
Of all his accomplishments, the one he was most proud of was his family.
Dr. Faulkner is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara; his daughters, Darci (Josh) Madden, Carrie (Bill) Rodrigues, Emily (Hien) Pham; his son Joseph Faulkner; and six grandchildren Jack, Charlotte, and Henry Madden, Ava and Audrey Rodrigues and Sadie Pham; sister, Lorraine (Greg) Krashoc. He is already deeply missed by his family.
A Memorial Service will be held April 1, 2017, at 2 p.m., at THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 26 River St., Madison. Calling hours will be held Friday, March 31, 2017, from 4-8 p.m., and on Saturday from 12-2 p.m., at the funeral home.
