Joseph George Manyo, 96, Formerly of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully in his sleep early on June 27th 2019 in St. Petersburg Florida.
Born in Ashtabula, March 20th, 1923 , He was preceded in death by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 68 years, Margaret J. "Peggy" (Hartwell).
He was a graduate of Ashtabula High before joining the army in 1943. He landed on Utah Beach in Normandy on D-Day, June 6th 1944. He spent two weeks in France before being wounded and received The Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals.
He worked for the Ashtabula Post Office as a mail carrier until retirement and was a faithful member of St. Joseph Parish. He enjoyed traveling, nature walks, cooking and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Nick, John, Emry, and Ernie, and two sisters, Mary and Carol. Survivors include his children, David, Debra and Timothy; and his granddaughters, Ashely and Kendahl, all of St. Petersburg, Florida; and three sisters, Charlotte (Fasula), Betty (Varckette), and Margaret Manyo, and sister in law, Beverly Manyo, all of Ashtabula, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered as a loving and kind hearted man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service and burial will be held on Tuesday, June 9th ,2019 at 12:30 PM at Bay Pines National Veterans cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or your local Hospice.
