ASHTABULA - Marion Helen Crislip Amsden, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October21, 2017.

The daughter of Harley F. and Helena (Wheeler) Crislip, Marion was born on June 1, 1936 in Tallmadge, Ohio.

Marion and Ronald Amsden were married on April 23, 1955, and together they celebrated nearly sixty years creating a family legacy and many happy memories.

Marion was the office manager for Dr. R.W. Shelby for twenty-five years. She was an integral part of his practice and was devoted to her job as well as to the patients.

Marion was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Ashtabula, where she sang in the choir, was a member of American Baptist Women, and served as Deaconess for many years. Marion was a Prayer Warrior, she not only prayed for her family and friends, but she prayed for those people who suffered devastating losses in natural disasters. Her prayers were unceasing and fervent.

She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star; reading mentor at both McKenzie and Thomas Jefferson Elementary Schools and participated for many years in the singing of Handel's Messiah. When her children were young she was a Girl Scout Leader. Reading was her passion, she enjoyed any type of novel and found it hard to put down a good book. Marion loved the United States of America and was not bashful about telling you she believed in respecting the country and the flag. Hats off in the house was one of her rules. The Indians became her team and she had collections of eagles and bunnies.

Marion is survived by her daughters, Thirza (David) Lovejoy of North Kingsville, Desiree Patterson of Ashtabula, and Bonnie (Carl) May of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Elizabeth Lovejoy, and Rachel (Ben) Lovejoy-Wyand; Stephan (Meredith), Andrew, and Harley Katz; three great-grandchildren, Logan Brazil and Juliette and Oliver Katz. She is survived by her siblings, Linda Potts, Neil (Mary Lou) Crislip, Georgia (Ronald) Brais all of Ashtabula; sisters-in law, Betty and Dorothy Crislip; many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Amsden, on February 4, 2015; daughter, Connie Amsden; siblings, Franklin Crislip, Velorous Crislip, Gerald Crislip, Kathleen Bloom, and Herman Crislip.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Ashtabula, 4353 Park Ave., with the Pastors Adam Markley and Mike Greenlief officiating. Burial will follow at Saybrook Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 5PM to 8PM at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. A calling hour will be held prior to the service on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 10AM until 11AM at the church.
Should friends desire, memorial contribution in her name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ashtabula Memorial Fund.
