A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Mary Laurie Divoky, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, at Notre Dame Education Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon.
Sister Mary Laurie died March 31st, at Notre Dame Provincial Center, Chardon.
Sister was born Nov. 25, 1942, in Cleveland, and was known for her compassionate response to the needs of all she encountered. She proclaimed the loving goodness and providence of God as an elementary school teacher and principal for thirty years and then served as pastoral minister in Ashtabula and Geneva, spiritual care coordinator for Hospice of the Western Reserve, and Liturgy coordinator at St. John School. Sister was especially dedicated to prison ministry at the Lake Erie Correctional Institution. She treasured her family and friends, the beauty of all God's creation and the privilege of walking with others in the sacred space of their living and dying.
Cherished sister of Laurence (Patricia), Annamary Britton (Don, deceased), Dennis (Terry), and James; loving aunt of a niece and nephews; dear cousin; and sister to the congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame with whom she shared her life for 54 years.
Sister Mary Laurie was preceded in death by her parents Laurence and Alice (née Chimo) Divoky.
Friends may call at the Center on Monday, April 3rd, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and on Tuesday from 9-10:15 a.m. The burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery on the Notre Dame Education Center grounds.
