ASHTABULA - Michael James Kovacs, 59, passed away Thursday August 10, 2017 at the Cleveland Clinic following a very short battle with cancer.
He was born in Ashtabula on October 4, 1957 the son of Stephen and Dolores (Bourdeau) Kovacs.
Michael lived in California for many years and worked as a title officer. He was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. He was a past Grand Knight of his local council of the Knights of Columbus in California and was even nominated as Catholic Man of the Year in Orange Co., CA. Mike grew up as a member of Mt. Carmel Church and was graduate of St. John High School, Class of 1976.
Michael enjoyed collecting any sports memorabilia of the Cleveland Indians, Browns and his beloved O.S.U. Buckeyes. He loved to garden, he loved animals and he loved music. His family was very important to him and he just purchased a home in Ashtabula so he could spend more time with his family here. .
He is survived by his loving family: his wife Patricia; his daughter Julia Kovacs, his siblings: Ray (Lita) Kovacs, Ken Kovacs, Norman Kovacs, Virginia "Sissy" (Mickey) Rood, and Mark (Brenda) Kovacs; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law Colleen Kovacs; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, who he loved very dearly.
She was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marilyn Carr and his brother John Kovacs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 am at Our Lady of Peace Parish - Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 E. 21st St. Ashtabula.
Calling hours will also be held inside Mt. Carmel Church on Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions can be made to the family, envelopes will be available at the church.
The CZUP FUNERAL HOME, 1329 Lake Avenue Ashtabula is handling the arrangements for the family.
