Nellie Burke, 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 5, 2017, at Saybrook Landing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born November 20, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Stanley and Sophie (Wypych) Wludyga, and had been a lifelong Jefferson and Ashtabula resident. She married the love of her life Edmund Burke on April 28, 1945, at St. Joseph Calasanctius Catholic Church in Jefferson.
Nellie graduated from Jefferson High School and worked at General Electric in Jefferson. Nellie earned a great reputation as a waitress at various restaurants, including Jefferson Diner.
A member of Our Lady of Peace St. Joseph's Church, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, feeding the birds, knitting, crafts, puzzles and Pinochle.
Her survivors include her two children, Carol (Jim) Young of Florida; Rebecca (Rick) Hughes of Madison, Ohio; one sister, Irene Kelner of Dorset; two grandchildren, Linda Garcia and Edmund Young, both of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years Edmund on July 23, 2017; two brothers, Edward Wludyga, Steve Wludyga; one sister, Lottie Teresk; and her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at St. Joseph's Church, 3312 Lake Ave. Ashtabula. Fr. Raymond will preside. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Jefferson. Calling hours will be held at the church from 10 AM until the time of service at 11AM.

The family would like to thank the staff at Saybrook Landing for the care and comfort they have provided to Nellie, always treating her more like family than a patient.
