Raymond J. Wisuri, age 97, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Country Club Retirement Campus.
Born October 9, 1919, in Ashtabula, the son of Jacob and Anna (Kananen) Wisuri, and was a lifelong Ashtabula resident. He attended Ashtabula High School, and he enjoyed playing basketball with his neighborhood friends.
A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Pacific Theater, in the Signal Corp. in World War II. He received the Army Commendation Ribbon for "Out-Standing Service at Chinhae, Korea." Upon returning home Ray and his brother Art, ran the family dairy farm until their retirement in the late 1990's.
Ray was a member of the Ashtabula County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed reading and taking rides with family and friends to Antique Tractor Shows.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Eino, Thomas, George, and Arthur Wisuri; three sisters, Sally Kotila, Ida Hoplight, and Lillian Wintz; and his parents.
Ray is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Per his request no calling hours will be observed. A private family graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Plymouth Township.
The family would like to thank the nurses, aides, and staff of CCRC for the many years of comfort and care Ray received.
They would also like to thank Hospice of the Western Reserve for the care they provided him in such a short time, and ask that memorial contributions in his name be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, is handling arrangements.
