Richard Allen Dunnick, 74 passed away peacefully on June 8, 2017, in Carrolton Texas, after a brief illness. He was born April 9, 1943 in Ashtabula Ohio, to James P. Dunnick, Sr. and Isabel Gillen Dunnick.
Richard was a 1961 graduate of Harbor High School in Ashtabula, OH. He attended Kent State University on a football scholarship and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Richard received his officer's commission in the U.S. Army in 1967. He attended flight school at Ft. Walters, Texas and Fort Rucker, Alabama. Richard attained the rank of major in the Texas Army National Guard.
Richard loved all things that took flight, airplanes and helicopters. He delighted in the world of flight and was interested in WWII history from tanks to airplanes. The last twelve years, Richard worked for IKEA in Frisco, Texas.
Richard will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He loved to cobble together phases that left many people scratching their heads with his unique colloquialisms.
Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Claire (Hewins) Dunnick, son Cole Gillen Dunnick (Christy Martin Dunnick), grandchildren George William and Kathryn Martin, sister Katrinka Dunnick Morgan (Jim Morgan, Jr.), many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and brother James Paul Dunnick, Jr.
His family has planned a memorial trip to Ashtabula, Ohio the week of July 2, 2017. The family will host a visitation/open house for anyone who knew Richard, Claire, or family on Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 2-5pm at 1333 Walnut Boulevard, Ashtabula, Ohio.
