Richard '"Dick" Kauppila

Richard '"Dick" Kauppila, 88, Sarasota, Florida, passed peacefully from this life embraced in the love and warmth of his family on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. He was born on April 30, 1929, in Conneaut, Ohio, to Wayne and Alice (Morton) Kauppila.
Richard was a loving husband to his wife of 47 years Mary Lou (Pritchard) Kauppila; devoted father to his sons Skip Cunningham and Clayton Kauppila; daughters Linda (Steve) Kromer, Cheryl (Brian) Lutey, and Carolyn (Jeff) Harper, as well as a proud grandfather. While his memory will remain with us forever, his daily presence in our lives will be truly missed.
He also leaves behind his brother Donald (Judy) Kauppila; sister Mary Alice (Robert) Marks along with many other beloved family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Wayne "Sonny" Kauppila, and his loyal golden retrievers Whitney and Boomer.
Richard's gregarious personality, sense of humor, and warm heart left a lasting impression on those whose lives he touched over the years. He was an avid golfer and former past president of Meshingomesia. Richard had an expansive and diverse career as a civil/mining engineer including vice president of Marketing and Engineering for IMI/lrving Brothers and as a consultant for multiple organizations in the industry. He was a graduate of Kansas University and served his country as a Military Police Officer in WWII.
The family held a private memorial/celebration of Richard's life on Aug. 5. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Tidewell Hospice and the Humane Society of Sarasota, Florida. Arrangements were handled by Palm Roberts Funeral Home.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Tidewell Hospice and The Springs for their care and support in his final days.
