Robert Barry Edwards, age 71, of Roaming Shores, OH died on Friday, June 30 with family by his side at the Centerburg Respiratory Center in Centerburg, Ohio. He was a dedicated teacher, a talented musician, and a selfless husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth; his children Richard (Tammie), John (Lisa) and Catherine; his grandchildren Chase, Maxwell, Michael, and Calla; and his siblings William (Sharry), Beth Anne (Walter), Bonnie (Gene), and Albert (Cathy). He was the son of the late Richard Neal Edwards and the late Dorothy Powell Edwards. He is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Bob was born in Pensacola, FL, grew up in Willowick, OH, and graduated from Eastlake North High School in 1963. After graduating from Ohio University in 1968, he taught in the Warren Local Schools before serving as band director and elementary music teacher for the Kirtland Public Schools in 1969 until his retirement in 2000. In addition to his family, Bob loved biking, reading, libraries, tennis, music, crossword puzzles, bridge, and a good cup of strong coffee. He loved to help others such as by teaching bridge in the Kirtland Community Center, as the founder and director of a 50K bike ride for the Kirtland Strawberry Festival, and as a 40-year member of the early music consort Lacus Venti. Bob and Bettie raised their family in Willoughby, OH from 1973 to 1996 before retiring to Roaming Shores, OH and wintering in Florida.
A memorial gathering and celebration of life is planned to be held in Delaware, OH on July 15th. Contact email@example.com for info.
