Robert E. VanDevender, age 75, of Peterson Rd., Jefferson, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at his home. He was born June 17, 1942, in Warren, Ohio, the son of Gerald & Irene P. (Jones) VanDevender.
He served in the United States Army from 1967-1969 as a SP5(T) where he received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He worked for General Electric for 32 years. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Regional Area Modelers.
He is survived by his three children, Robin (David) Marshall of Chardon, Jason R. (Heidi) VanDevender of Roaming Shores, Kristen R. (Tim) Leehan of Kingsville; grandchildren, Athan & Elise Marshall of Chardon, Wyatt & Libby VanDevender of Roaming Shores, Emma & Jack Leehan of Kingsville; and companion, Sharon Skaggs.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gene VanDevender; two brothers in infancy, Gerald Leroy and Billy Lee.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 12:00 P.M. at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Pastor Joe Laing of Bethel Bible Church officiating. Burial will take place in Lenox Center Cemetery. A military honors service will also take place.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00-12:00 P.M. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to In-Country Vietnam Veterans, P. O. Box 97, Unionville, Ohio 44088.
