INDIAN ISLAND - Roland "Rollie" Huston, 77, of Old Town, Maine died unexpectedly at home, July 13th, 2017. Roland was born July 15th,1939 in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Donald J. Huston and Jean (Yarnell) Huston.
Roland graduated Rowe High School, class of 1957. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine. During this time he met and married Thelma Dow in 1962. In June they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Roland's career included 20 years in the service, both in the Air Force and Air National Guard retiring in 1988. He was also recognized as the youngest Chief of Police for the Town of Hampden when he was hired in 1965. He held this position for 21 years before retiring in 1986. Also during the majority of these years, he operated his own dairy farm and continued to farm for many years after.
During his retirement he offered his time in various civic organizations including the Knights of Columbus, Elks Club and American Legion of which he was a member. He and Thelma enjoyed many hours on their motorcycle trike and snowmobiles exploring the State of Maine trails. He enjoyed spending time at his son Allan's camp, fishing and hunting each year.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Susan (Huston) Woodworth of Conneaut, Ohio.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Thelma (Dow) Huston, are his son Allan J. Huston, and his wife Cheryl of Orono, and his daughter Deborah (Huston) Parsons and her husband John of Milford; seven grandchildren, Courtney Harnum, Andrew Madden, Linh Huston, Kimberly Huston and Elena Huston, Keoni Parsons and Nakoa Parsons; two brothers; Donald J. and his wife Pat of Conneaut, Ohio, and Larry D. and wife Faye of Paltea, Pennsylvania.
A Remembrance Service will be held at a later date.
