Shirley Elizabeth Dramis

Shirley Johnson, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. Born September 15, 1924, to Clair and Leona Johnson in Ashtabula, Ohio.
She is survived by her beloved husband George R. Dramis (married 74 years); and twin sons, Jim and John.
She was preceded in death by son Randy; infant daughter Carol; and brother Emmett.
Shirley Dramis was a grandmother of four: Forest (son of Randy and Mattie Dramis); Joel, Josh, Jonathan (sons of Jim and Joan Dramis). Also, she was a great grandmother of two great-grandchildren, Abby and Caleb (children of Joel and Rachael Dramis).
After graduating from Ashtabula High School, she married George Dramis March 4, 1944. Shirley trained to be a nurse, but was soon needed for important factory work in order to support the WWII effort. She waited almost 3 years for her husband, George, to return from WWII where he was an Army soldier fighting on the Normandy beaches during D-Day invasion. From that point on, she would refer to him affectionately with a nickname "Sarge." Shirley was the last surviving member of the Ashtabula club "WEGS" (West End Girls) - originally eight members who had known each other since the first grade. Shirley's many interests were poetry, crossword puzzles, playing the piano, and keeping detailed notes in several diaries for special events and trips. Shirley was a long time member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula, Ohio. One of Shirley's favorite songs that she would often sing was "Amazing Grace" -
When we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun.
