Susanne N. (Troy) Matthews
ASHTABULA- It is with great sadness that the family of Susanne Nesbitt (Troy) Matthews announces her passing from this life on Friday, November 3, 2017.
She was born January 30, 1928 to Helen Davis and Charles Troy, in Cleveland, Ohio. A graduate of the Geneva High School class of 1946, Sue enjoyed acting in the theater and wasa member of the thespians. Following her graduation, Sue married the love of her life, Estel Matthews, on November 14, 1946 in Kingsland, Georgia.
Devoted to both her family and her community, Sue volunteered in numerous capacities through Saybrook United Methodist Church, Contact, Ashtabula County Libraries, the Salvation Army, Y Teens, Child Conservation League, and the Girl Scouts.
Some of Sue's favorite pastimes included reading, camping, and traveling with her family. She especially loved Florida and the many winters she and Estel spent there as snowbirds.
Sue will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 71 years, Estel Matthews; daughters, Victoria Waller (George Waller), Pamela Whelan, and Kimberly Turner; daughter-in-law, Margaret Matthews; grandchildren, Brian Matthews (Cecilia Matthews), Bradley Matthews (Alison Matthews), Robinlyn Vogel, Lynsay Whelan, Jacob Whelan, and Amanda Leonard; great grandchildren Paige Matthews, Blake Matthews, Nicolas Matthews, Owen Matthews, and Gabriel Matthews; her sister, Donna Pudder.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Owen Matthews; and her brother, Charles Troy Jr.
A Memorial Service celebrating Sue's life will be at 5:00PM with Reverend Jeff Stoll, Pastor of Saybrook United Methodist Church officiating.
A calling hour will be observed at Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Avenue, on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 4:00PM to time of service at 5PM.
