Cheryl's Story

Text size

Cheryl Ann Simmons, 65, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Jefferson Healthcare after a short, but courageous battle with Alzheimer's and Dementia.
The daughter of Leon and Dorothy (Holbrook) Emerson, Cheryl was born on Feb. 6, 1952 in Conneaut. She was a graduate of Conneaut High School and had remained a lifelong area resident.
On June 13, 1970, Cheryl and Ron Simmons were united in marriage. Their forty-seven years of marriage was full of love and laughter and many cherished memories.
Cheryl enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading and most any type of music. She really enjoyed listening to Bee Gee's, The Monkees and Foreigner. She was a volunteer at the schools when her children were younger. Cheryl had a keen sense of humor and a quick wit; at times you did not know whether to take her seriously or not. Cheryl loved her family and she enjoyed spoiling her beloved grandchildren.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Ron Simmons; loving daughters, Adriana (Ric) Greenlief, Lorinda (Jason Coy) Cook, and Elizabeth (Mike) Messent; eight beloved grandchildren; her father, Leon (Reba) Emerson; siblings, David Emerson, Roland Emerson and Karen Cosme; and many other loving family members.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy (Holbrook) Boysaw; and a brother, Jeffrey Emerson.
Visitation for Cheryl will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Rd., Ashtabula.
If desired, contributions in her name may be made to the American Legion Post #103 Honor Guard, Carpenter Rd., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
