David's Story

David O. Lemponen, age 83, of St. Rt. 45, Austinburg, died Friday afternoon at the University Hospitals in Cleveland from injuries received Thursday while assisting emergency personnel with an auto accident.
He was born Dec. 6, 1933, in Austinburg, Ohio, the son of Rufus and Marian (Owen) Lemponen and has been a lifelong Austinburg resident. David was a 1953 Austinburg High School graduate. He married Linda L. Schlecht on August 14, 1965, in Geneva.
He worked several years at Rockwell International and retired from Reliance Electric in 1999, upon their closing after many years of service.
David was a 60 year member of the Austinburg Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as chief for 18 years. He was a member of the Ashtabula County Fire Chief's Assoc., the Masonic Lodge, Grotto and the Elks Lodge.
He enjoyed golf, bowling, watching and playing baseball, and most of all his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; a daughter, Lisa A. (Clarence "Skip") Lemponen-Plotz of Jefferson; a son, Eric J. (Heather) Lemponen of Grove City; two granddaughters, Katarina Plotz and Morgan Lemponen; and two brothers, Donald (Shirley) Lemponen of Ashtabula and Phillip (Lois) Lemponen of Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Norma Keller; and a brother, James Lemponen.
Memorial Services will be announced and held at a later date.
