Ellen J. Kangas, age 89, of Painesville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Madison Healthcare. She was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Kingsville, to Jay and Hazel (Leonard) Burtt.
Ellen graduated from Harvey High School, and within a couple hours of graduating, she married the love of her life, John Kangas, on June 7, 1942. He was on leave from the Army during WWII, and the time was right for a wedding. She has been a long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Painesville and enjoyed crafting and creating beautiful crotchet and embroidered keepsakes. A loving wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, Ellen will be missed by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her sons, John (Betty) Kangas and Kenneth (Cindy) Kangas; daughter, Linda Peterson; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Ellen was preceded in death by her cherished husband of 63 years, John; and her parents.
Friends will be received 4-5 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017, at THE BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 26 River St., Madison, with a memorial service following at 5 p.m. Pastor Jonathan Schroeder will celebrate the service.
