Ernest W. Sherman, age 69 of Footville-Richmond Rd., Lenox Township, died unexpectedly Saturday morning in the emergency room at Tri-Point Medical Center.
He was born May 19, 1947, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of Milton and Naomi (Nuse) Sherman, and has lived in this area the past 27 years, coming from Little Valley, N.Y. Ernest was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. He was married to Brenda L. Thomas on July 6, 2010, in New Lyme Township.
Mr. Sherman retired in 2009 from Lakeview Forging in Erie. He was a member of the Pentecostal Community Church in New Lyme Township, was a driver for the Amish, and enjoyed being with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda L. Sherman; three children, Alona J. (Jeffrey Miller) Sherman of Andover, Mary A. (Ryan) Floyd of Limerick, Maine, and Ernest W. Sherman II of Portland, Maine; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna (David) Stubbs of Williamsville, N.Y., and Judith (William) Sneath of St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Rebekah Sherman in 1983; his first wife, Linda Sherman; and a sister, Mary Sherman.
Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the Pentecostal Community Church, 5348 Peck Rd., Jefferson, with Pastor Scott Ardary officiating. Additional services will be held Thursday and Friday in Little Valley, N.Y., with burial in Maples Cemetery.
