ASHTABULA Esther C. (Amstutz) Edeburn, 101, of Ashtabula, formerly of Rittman, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 17, 2017.
She was born June 22, 1916 in Rittman to the late Lee Ellis Amstutz and Edith (Derthic) Amstutz.
Esther graduated from Rittman High School in 1933, the College of Wooster in 1937, and obtained her Masters degree from Ohio State in 1938. She has been a resident of Saybrook Township, Ashtabula, since 1939. She was currently a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and was a former member of Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church for 40 years. Esther taught in Saybrook Junior High for 24 years and at Harbor High School (Ashtabula) for 23 years, and was a Martha Jenning Scholar.
In 1960, she married Raymond Edeburn and was happily married to him until his death in 2003. For 19 years, Raymond and Esther enjoyed spending their winters in Weslaco, TX. She was a member of the Ashtabula Retired Teachers, Ohio Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Phi Delta Kappa. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, traveling, camping, square dancing, and gardening.
She is survived by her sister Betty Gift, of Rittman; her niece Esther Kester, of Dayton, grandniece Deb Ruscitelli, of Dayton; grandnephew, Robert Kester, of Dayton; grandnephew William A. Swartz of Rittman; grandniece Stefanie Ketterman of Lincoln, AL; and great grand nieces and nephews Kristen Ruscitelli, Abigail Ketterman, William C. Swartz, Nickolas Swartz, and Gabrielle Swartz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Ledale Amstutz, her nephew William Lee Swartz, and 2 brothers in law, William F. Swartz and Austin Gift.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, September 23, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1352 Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, with Rev. Mark Mong officiating. Interment Rittman Cemetery following immediately.
Friends may call from 9-10 AM on Saturday morning at the church.
