F. Gene Shaffer, Sr.
ASHTABULA - F. Gene Shaffer, Sr., 87, passed away August 28, 2017 following a long illness.
He was born in Ivydale, W.V. on July 7, 1930 the son of Rome and Anna (Burgess) Shaffer.
Gene proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
On July 12, 1958 he married Marlene Perkins, his loving and devoted wife of 59 years.
Gene loved to garden, he enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales. He was the most helpful and dependable husband, father, grandpa and friend.
He is survived by his loving family; his wife Marlene, his son Fil G. Jr. (Barbara); and his grandson Dalton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Golden and Roy; and his sisters: Maggie Bernath, Rena Wilkenson and Pearl Estep.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 6 to 8 at CZUP FUNERAL HOME, 1329 Lake Avenue Ashtabula.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Greenlawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Bob Leonard officiating the services. Burial will military rites will follow.
Memorial contributions can be made in his name to: Community First Church of God or Hospice of the Western Reserve, envelope will be available at the funeral home.
