Garnet Jean Hornbeck, age 88, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 29, 2017, at UH-Geneva Hospital, with her family at her side. She had been a resident at Saybrook Landing the past several years.
She was born on Dec. 12, 1928, in Ellamore, W.Va., the daughter of Ernest "Shorty" and Stella (Cutright) Osburn.
Mrs. Hornbeck was a member of the Saybrook United Methodist Church. Jean married the love of her life, Harold G. Hornbeck on July 20, 1946, in Tallmansville, W.Va.
During her younger years, she worked at Bob and Ruth's Beutler's drive-through restaurant as a "car hop." Jean retired as waitress at Kenny Kings Restaurant in Saybrook. However, her most important job, and the one she did with loving care, was as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She loved to do crafts of all kinds. Jean made quilts for her grandchildren and unique Christmas ornaments for each grandchild for many years. She knitted, made greeting cards, jewelry and much more.
Jean will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Judith (William) White, Ronald (Catherine), James (Marianne) and Douglas (with whom she shared a birthday) Hornbeck; grandchildren, Cassie (Monte) Maxwell, Carrie (Tim) Fox, Erin (Michael) Dmytryk, Ryan Hornbeck, Joshua Hornbeck, and Tyler Hornbeck; six great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene Perry; sister-in-law, Evelyn Osburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 63 years, Harold G. Hornbeck, in 2009; and two brothers, Maurice and Charles Osburn.
Funeral Services will be held, Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with Pastor Jeff Stoll officiating. Burial will follow at Saybrook Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m., at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME.
Memorials in memory of Garnet may be given to the Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 S. Depot Road, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004; or the charity of one's choice.
