Gladys M. Bannister, age 91, former Maplewood Dr. resident in Jefferson, died Friday afternoon at the St. Mary's at Ashbury Ridge Nursing Home in Erie, Pa.
She was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Erie, Pa., the daughter of Henry and Hannah (Carson) Bannister and was a 50 year resident of Jefferson before entering the nursing home last May.
Ms. Bannister was an educator all of her life. She was a graduate of the Portland Bible School in Portland, Ore., did her undergraduate studies at Anderson University and received Masters Degree's from Miami University and Kent State University. She served with the Peace Corps in Cameroon, Africa, and with the Church of God Mission in Kenya.
Ms. Bannister was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church, the Elementary Retired Teachers the County Retired Teachers Associations and also Delta Kappa Gamma society. She also volunteered at the Jefferson Healthcare and Faith in Action.
Her survivors include seven nieces and nephews, Dale (Dede) Bannister of Granite Bay, Calif., Larry (Sandy) Bannister of Raliegh, N.C., Lynn (Francis) LaGrandeur of Waterford, Pa., Douglas Bannister of Columbia, Mo., and Susan (Robert) Oglevee, Curtis (Stephanie) Bannister and Brian (Cheryl) Bannister, all of Erie, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Bannister of Erie, Pa.; and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Her parents and two brothers, Richard and Robert Bannister preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND CREMATORY, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with her great-nephew, the Rev. Andy Bartlett officiating. Burial will be in Wattsburg Cemetery in Wattsburg, Pa.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
