Joan Christine (Ferguson) Veon, age 88, of Erie and formerly of Geneva, Ohio, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017. Born in Geneva, August 2, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Irving and Mamie (Reppenhagen) Ferguson.
Joan was a 1947 graduate of Geneva High School. She was a former member of Geneva First United Methodist Church, where she established the daycare program and was active in the food pantry. She also enjoyed needlework.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Donald Veon, Sr.; a son, John W. Standridge; three sisters, Laverne Tegland, Bessie Holden and Ruth Ferguson; a half-brother, Kenneth Miller and half-sister, Myrtle Holden.
Joan is survived by three daughters, Christine Nunan, husband Charles Jr., of Landenberg, Pa., Susan Patterson, husband Kevin, of Erie and Karen Artman, husband Carl, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a son, Howard Donald Veon, Jr.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; six step-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
There will be no public calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Monday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, in Geneva, Ohio. Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., in Erie, is handling arrangements.
