Lillian Violet McCafferty, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2017.
The daughter of Taano & Inez Luomala, Lillian was born on July 23, 1923 in Ashtabula. Lil was a 1942 graduate of Harbor High.
Lil then met the love of her life, Peter J. McCafferty, in 1946 and they were united in marriage on May 8, 1947. For nearly sixty-five years Lillian and Peter were inseparable, creating many cherished memories along the way. Their marriage was one of mutual respect and love.
Lil spent many years working at Reliance Electric winding coils.
After Lil and Peter retired, they spent their winters in St. Petersburg, Florida, and summers in Ashtabula. They attended Holy Family Church in St. Petersburg and were members of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mt. Carmel Church.
While in Florida, Pete and Lil enjoyed the clubhouse where they sunned themselves at the pool, rode bikes, played cards and participated in the plays. Lil and Pete were ballroom dancers and won many awards for their graceful footwork. They also traveled abroad.
Lil had many talents: she was an avid bowler and won many championships with her sister, Eleanor Trater. She loved to play golf, bingo and go to the casinos. Lil was a lucky person and won many times.
Lillian will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Lillian is survived by her four children, Cathleen McGill of Tierra Verde, Florida, Jerry (Christy) McCafferty of Green Valley, Arizona, Joyce (Steve) Mudd of Odessa, Texas, and Bonnie Sawruk of Ashtabula, Ohio. She has six grandchildren, Terri Poplowski, Kelly Moseley, Shanna Locy, Jessica Askew, Caitlin Schissler and Peter Mackey; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
