Loretta "Lorrie" Ruth Perkey was born on April 14, 1939 in Indianapolis, IN, and succumbed to cancer on August 12, 2017 at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, TN.
She is survived by her husband, Lowell Perkey, of 57 years and three children, Susan Marple (David), Daniel Perkey (Jill) and Sharon Patterson (Toby). She was born to Walter and Ruth Rogers and is survived by two sisters Virginia Rose and Emmie McKillips.
She attended Bowling Green State University where she studied Fine Art and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. In 1958, she met her husband, Lowell Perkey in English class. In the spring of 1959, she was named the Kappa Sigma Dream Girl and was later married on August 29th.
In the eighties, Lorrie and her husband opened Perkey's Florist and Gifts in Ashtabula, OH which she operated for 22 years before retiring. Over the years she pursued her passion for creativity in floral art, earning her certification as a FTD Master Florist.
Lorrie enjoyed gourmet cooking, painting, floral arts, crafts, puzzles, pinochle, Antiques Roadshow, Scrabble and especially her family. She contributed to many charities and was a member of several organizations including Zonta International (President, Ashtabula Chapter), the Red Hats Society and Welcome Wagon.
In 1989, Lorrie was diagnosed with breast cancer, of which she battled courageously and graciously for 28 years. She had an incredible spirit that focused on the positive aspects of her life every day and never on the cancer. Her enduring strength, will and determination saw no boundaries; she fought and kept hope until her last day. She will forever be remembered for her unique spark and her love and grace through it all.
A Celebration of Life and luncheon will be held in Monterey, TN at the Cumberland Cove Welcome Center on September 9th from 11:00 to 1:30. A graveside service is planned to take place on September 30th in Ottawa, OH, followed by a luncheon at United Methodist Church.
