Louis J. "Lemon" Penna, age 96, of Ashtabula, Ohio, died on Monday morning at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born Nov. 19, 1920, in Ashtabula, he was the son of Ralph and Mary (Mauro) Penna.
Lemon graduated from Ashtabula High School, Class of 1938, and was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in Africa and Europe during WWII achieving the rank of sergeant. He worked for the New York Central Railroad retiring from Conrail after over 40 years of service.
Mr. Penna was an avid golfer and he also enjoyed dancing, hunting and gardening.
Lemon was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mount Carmel, life member of Sons of Italy of America 1169, East Ashtabula Club, American Legion and the VFW.
Survivors include his children, LuAnn (Denny) King of North Kingsville, Mary Lee (Art) Hill of Ashtabula, Ralph Penna of Ashtabula, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Antoinette (Peet) Penna; brother, Liberador Penna; and sisters, Teresa DiGiacomo, Louise Penna and Genevieve Penna.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Noon in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, with Father Raymond Thomas presiding. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by the American Legion Honor Guard Team from Post 103.
Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. in GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 West 19th St. in Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, in care of Our Lady of Peace Parish Ashtabula.
