2nd Lt. James R. Lord
He graduated from Conneaut High School in 1941 where he played football and was involved in many school activities. Lt. Lord was employed at Bell Aircraft in Buffalo, NY, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Corps on October 10, 1942. He was a P47D pilot with the 66th fighter squadron, 12th Air Force, and was piloting a plane in the Savon area off Northwest Italy, near the French border when it crashed off the coast of Corsica.
Lt. Lord was preceded in death a month earlier by his brother Sgt. William R. Lord, Jr. who was reported missing and apparently killed in action on July 12, 1944. He was survived by his parents.
Surviving family includes first cousins Mary Lou (Eades) Heumann, Sally (Eades) Hollyer, Martha (Sawtelle) Carr, and Richard Sawtelle, and more distant relatives.
A memorial service will take place at Conneaut Township Park Bluffs, 480 Lake Rd., on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. The procession will form at 1:00 PM at Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., will proceed at 1:30 to place a wreath the Fallen Heroes Memorial and at the War Memorial at Conneaut City Hall, then to Township Park for services officiated by Tim Kraus of Conneaut Church of Christ. The service will conclude with a fly-over, then will proceed to Center Cemetery, 1011 Main St., Conneaut, where full military honors will be accorded by Cowle Post #151 of the American Legion. Fellowship and refreshments will follow at American Legion Cowle Post, 272 Broad St. , Conneaut.
