Audrey Alice Hays Obituary

Ashtabula, Ohio - Audrey Alice (Rundell) Hays, 86, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Meadow Falls of Saybrook in Ashtabula.

She was born on May 11, 1938 in Rockville Centre, NY, the daughter of Howard Milton and Alice Marion (Reeveland) Rundell. After graduating from Freeport High School in 1956, Audrey earned her degree in Art Education at SUNY New Paltz in 1959. She went on to pursue graduate studies in photography at Ohio University in Athens, OH.

Shortly thereafter, she moved to Saybrook Township where she spent most of her life teaching art at Geneva High School. After 36 years of teaching, she retired in 1998. While with the school, she helped ensure fair treatment of teachers by serving as chair of the teachers association Grievance Committee for several years. She loved music and was known for encouraging her students to bring in their favorite albums to play during class. Since her passing, many of her former students have reached out to the family to share their stories of how Audrey inspired them and influenced their love of art.

In 1997 she fulfilled her dream of visiting Egypt to see the pyramids and also loved seeing the covered markets of Istanbul during her travels.

Audrey is survived by her loving son, Nicholas Paul (fiance' Jodie Walls) Hays of Winter Garden, FL; two grandchildren, Brandon and Laedyn Hays; her partner, Arthur Andersen; her first husband and father of her child, Harry Corbissero; and her second husband, Philip Hays who played a significant role in raising her son.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Howard Rundell, and her parents.
