Bernard Melaragno Obituary

ASHTABULA, OH - Bernard L. Melaragno

ASHTABULA - Bernard "Bernie" L. Melaragno, 91, passed away peacefully in his home on October 12, 2025.

Bernie was born on February 3, 1934, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of Angelo and Antoinetta (Billy) Melaragno.

He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.

On September 1, 1956, while on leave from the Army, he married Mary Cupido at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He and Mary were blessed with 64 years of marriage until her passing on December 18, 2020. They were also blessed with three daughters, three grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

Bernie worked very hard to provide for his family; for almost 30 years he worked for Ashtabula Bow Socket Company until their abrupt closure and then found work at The Illuminating Company where he worked for 12 more years until his retirement in 1993. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking in his shop and taking care of his lawn. He and Mary loved socializing and gathering with friends. The two of them lived their lives for their family, and they felt so very blessed with the family God gave them. He was a proud and loving dad, grandpa and great-grandpa and he will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his loving family: his daughters: Bernadette (Karl) Cimorelli; Jamie (Michael) Pollack and Julie (Joe Flahiff) Melaragno; his grandchildren: Kayla Cimorelli, Jake Cimorelli, and Jessica (Brian) Shank; his great-granddaughter Penelope Shank and his nieces Jaclyn (Rick) Featsent and Janet (Robert) Fish as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary, his brothers: Joe, Vincent, Edward, Raymond, and Albert Melaragno; and his sisters Ann Nappi and Lucille Colantino.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025; calling hours will be held from 11:00-12:30 at Czup Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula and his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 at Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 E. 21st Street, Ashtabula. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
