Kingsville, OH - Burton Edward Mills, 100, of Kingsville, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The son of Thomas and Maude (nee Price) Mills, he was born on May 24th, 1926, in his parent's house on South Wright Street in Kingsville. The doctor who delivered him arrived from Priest Street via horse and buggy and charged his parents five dollars. To this day, Burton believed it was the best five dollars ever spent. He married Barbara Green on March 5, 1955 and together they celebrated 63-years of marriage living in a home he built next door to his parents, only a few hundred feet from where he was born.

He graduated from the Kingsville High School in 1944. Upon graduation he entered the US Army Air Forces where he was trained as a radio systems repairman. He was aboard a transport ship crossing the Pacific Ocean when WWII ended in 1945. He then served at Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii as a member of the 145th Army Airways Communications System until he was discharged from service in 1946. Upon returning to Kingsville, he joined his father at T.E. Mills & Son, a sheet metal product, heating & air conditioning business which he owned and operated up until his retirement in May 1991. In addition to his company, Burton remained an avid farmer well into his 90s, tending to his cherry and peach trees.

A lifelong member of the Kingsville Presbyterian Church and of Neal Post 743 of the American Legion, he was a dedicated and hardworking member of his community his entire life. Though frugal, he loved travelling the world with his wife after their retirement. Their travels took them to at least 50 different countries, including the fields of Vietnam, the Amazon River, and Antarctica. In fact, he amassed so many passport stamps that an agent at the US Canada border once remarked that it was the fullest passport he had ever seen - a particularly proud accomplishment of Burton's. But despite all these travels, he always contended that Kingsville, Ohio was the best place he had ever been.

Burton is survived by his children, Marie (Jeff), Robert, Jim (Sabine), and Janet; grandchildren, Caroline (Hans), Rachel, and Jennifer (Matt), Margeaux, Robert, Hanna (Kevin), Hallie (Jordan), and Benjamin; and great-children, Iris, Cooper, Harvey, and Robert. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janice in 1966; his wife Barbara in 2018, and his parents.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 11AM at Lulu Falls on Cemetery Rd., in Kingsville, with Erin Drews officiating.
