Colebrook Township, Ohio - Chieko "Peggy" Weaver (nee Tomano), 94, of Colebrook Twp, OH, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, December 23, 2021 at Ohman Family Living at Blossom in Huntsburg, OH. She was born in Osaka, Japan on February 19, 1927 to the late Ruochi and Fuku (Trazawa) Tamano.

In 1949, Peggy obtained a job at the PX store in Kobe, Japan where she met Irvin Weaver. The two fell in love and were married on October 26, 1951 in Kobe. On March 7, 1952, Peggy said goodbye to her family, which she never saw again. She boarded the USNS General MM Patrick alone with their daughter, Shirley, to begin their new life in the United States. Peggy arrived in Seattle after two weeks where she was reunited with Irvin. The three returned to Parkman, Ohio to meet Irvin's Amish parents.

Peggy and Irvin remained in Parkman where she learned both the American and the "Amish" ways. She adapted by speaking English and a little Amish. Her mother-in-law taught her how to bake bread and cook the foods Irvin liked the most.

In 1973, Peggy moved to Colebrook, OH with Irvin when they purchased a 100 acres farm.

On December 16, 1988, after 9 months of classes in Orwell, Peggy became a U.S. citizen.

After Irvin passed away in 2011, Peggy remained on the family farm. She enjoyed planting her garden every year and continued to do so as long as she could. Now, Peggy is reunited with her loving husband Irvin.

Peggy will be greatly missed by: her children, Shirley (Phillip) Phelps, Irvin (Cheryl) Weaver Jr., Gene (Debra) Weaver, Elwin (Theresa) Weaver; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-laws, Andy (Betty) Weaver, Dan Weaver; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by: her parents; and husband, Irvin.

A FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 12:00 P.M., TUESDAY, DECEMBER 28TH, 2021 AT BEST FUNERAL HOME, 15809 MADISON RD., MIDDLEFIELD, OH with Pastor Josh Peyton of the Andover Christian Church officiation. Family and friends will be received from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Interment will follow in Overlook Cemetery, Parkman, Ohio.
