Ashtabula, OH - Darlene James, 67, of Ashtabula, Ohio, went home to the Lord on October 13, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on March 16, 1958 to Eroy Lampkin and James Bates.
She was the devoted mother to her M&M gang--her 4 daughters, a loving aunt, sister, and friend. She was known for always offering a helping hand, a hot meal, and a "hairdo" to all.
She is preceded in death by: her sister, Alberta; grandson, Geoffrey; nephews, Marcus and Freddie; and her mother. She is survived by: her sisters, Deborah (Gary) McConnell, Evon Watson, Grace Wargo and Evelynn Watson; brother, Earlie Watson; daughters, Melinda Davis, Melissa James, Marquette James (Roger Bottorf) and Megan James (Lahvenus Whitted); grandchildren, Trevor, Tye, Alyvia, Mariah, Bradley, Leo, Charlie, LeVander, Amelia and Camille; and many nieces and nephews. She also joins her Perryville Porch Crew--Mary, Martha, Ann, Jackee, and Treva in heaven.
Darlene graduated from Ashtabula County Vocational School. She worked for the Ashtabula County Courthouse in her early years, but was known for her cosmetology skills at JC Penney Styling Salon, where her motto was, "Look good, feel good." She loved to cook, listen to music, garden and spend time with her family. She especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren, teaching them history and playing with them.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, October 18 2025 and noon service to follow at Miracle Temple, 319 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio. The repast will be at the Army and Navy Union, 1242 W. 40th St. at 2:30 p.m. for food and fellowship.
