David Charles Floor (Dave) Obituary

On February 12, 2025, the world unexpectedly lost a jokester, a party crasher and a man who lit up the world with his contagious smile. David Charles Floor passed away at his home in Fairhope, Alabama, leaving a legacy of laughter, love and the ability to make you feel like you were the most important person in the room.

Born on May 7, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dave was the son of the late Albert and Dorothea Beu Floor. He grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio, graduating from Harbor High School in 1962. Dave also known as "Rocky", was co-captain and star football running back and excelled in track as a sprinter for the Harbor Mariners. He loved being on the golf team so much that he and his buddies managed to raise some ruckus as golf caddies at the Ashtabula Country Club. These early experiences shaped his character and created lifelong friends.

After high school, he joined the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marines, then found a fulfilling career with American Airlines where he was known as "Detroit Dave". This opportunity took him and his family to Dallas, TX and Raleigh, NC, where he retired after 30 years along with free air travel for life.

Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and great friend. He took every opportunity to embarrass his girls and grandchildren in public, loved attention and thrived on the ultimate dare. It was not uncommon for him to crash a wedding or swanky hotel resort party if one just happened to cross his path. Dave loved it when family and friends would visit, earning him the title of "world's best homemade waffle maker".

Dave is now reunited with his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Dickey Floor, his sister Deanna Floor Clancy and very dear friend, Mark "Babe" Shaughnessy. He leaves behind his daughters: Julie Bennett (Scott) of Jacksonville, NC; Lisa Patterson of Belmont, NC; and Christy Hiltz (Jon) of Winston-Salem, NC. Grandchildren: Brandon, Brooke (Jose), Briahna, Brittany (Kevin), Hannah (Hunter), Kelsey, Kheagan (Katelyn), Shane and Morgan. Great-grandchildren: Marleigh, Annalia, Kennedy, Landon, Madeline, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who thought the world of him. To say Dave "lived" for his annual high school reunion held every July would be an understatement. Among his cherished and loyal friends were Dr. Jim Nyland, Dick Morrison, Dave Williams and Dick Huhta. Their circle may be closing in, but the bonds of their friendship will never be broken. Dave certainly never met a stranger, and we will all miss his famous last words, "kill 'em with kindness".
