Ashtabula, Ohio - Douglas Glenn Blenman, Sr., 75, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 3:17PM in his home surrounded by his immediate family.
He was born May 30, 1949 in Ashtabula, the son of Glenn and Vivian Anita (Brunell) Blenman and had been a lifelong Ashtabula resident. Doug spent most of his high school years at Edgewood High School but transferred to Harbor High School his senior year and graduated from there in 1967. Doug earned his Bachelor's Degree from Erie Business College and was just a few credits short of earning his Masters Degree when he started his first full time job. He worked at Honeywell and then Rockwell during the first several years of his professional career before starting his own business.
He married the love of his life, Bonnie Carlo on August 7, 1971 and together they shared 51 years before her passing in 2022.
Together Doug and Bonnie built a family run business called ID Networks, from the ground up. He served as the President and CEO of the public safety software company for more than 40 years and he and Bonnie were very proud of the fact that all three of their children joined the company over the years.
A longtime member of Mt. Carmel Church and Our Lady of Peace, Doug was strong in his Catholic faith. He enjoyed playing golf, bocce, racquetball, and pool. He also loved music and doing wood-working projects. He put himself through college by playing the organ in various bands during his younger years. A devoted Cleveland Browns fan, he loved to cook on the grill and always enjoyed hosting gatherings with family and friends at his home. But his favorite hobby was attending the events of his children and grandchildren.
Doug will always be remembered for his giving nature and always being there for others with his quiet generosity. He had a habit of generously giving to the people and causes that meant the most to him, but he and Bonnie also often helped people in need that they barely knew. This is what his children will remember most about them.
He is survived by his children, Douglas Blenman Jr., Maria (John) Wheelock, and Eric (Jen) Blenman; five grandchildren, Abigail, Ashton, Madeline, Carter and Ana; and one sister, Kathleen Benjamin.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie on October 14, 2022; and his parents.
Calling hours will be held from 5-8 PM Monday, January 13, 2025 at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Our Lady of Peace, Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 East 21st St., Ashtabula. Rev. John Keehner will preside. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
