Frances Ann Heino
Frances A. Heino
COLORADO- Frances Ann Heino, 97, was greeted in her heavenly home by her loving husband, John (Gib) on Sunday, January 19, 2020.
The daughter of Nufre and Nellie (Pickelo) Mendralla, Frances was born in PA but lived most of her life in Ashtabula. She was a 1940 graduate of Ashtabula High School and a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church. After graduation she was employed by F.W. Woolworth and Carlisle-Allen. During WWII she was employed by Aetna Rubber and the Electro-Met (Union Carbide) where she made parts and equipment for the armed forces and assembled gasoline tanks for the U.S. military bomber planes.
Fran was a talented homemaker who loved to bake for her family, friends, and church, especially lemon meringue pie and cupcakes. She enjoyed working in the yard and flower beds with "Gib", chatting with neighbors, and was quick to help others.
When John sadly passed away February 3, 2014, prior to their seventy-second wedding anniversary, Fran moved to St. Andrews Retirement Village in Aurora, CO, to be near family. She enjoyed making new friends and spending time with her daughter Gale, son-in-law Jim, grandsons Kevin and Darren, and great grandchildren Braden and Alina. She looked forward to visits from her daughter Debbi and her family from NC and CA and the family all being together to laugh, eat, and reminisce.
Fran's greatest joy came from her family whom she loved with her whole heart. She will be remembered for her strength through many trials, her spirit, and strong devotion to her faith.
Frances is survived by her daughters, Gale (Jim) McGrevey of Colorado and Debra (Frank) Collins of NC; grandsons, Kevin (Valida) McGrevey and Darren McGrevey of Colorado; granddaughters Sara (Dylan) Pruitt and Shelby Collins of CA; great-grandchildren, Braden and Alina McGrevey and Owen Pruitt; and nieces, nephews, and friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and nine siblings: sisters Stephania (Stephen) Pastor, Josephine (Walter) Shislowski, Stella (Charles) Hagquist, Mary (William) Niemi, and brothers, Frank, Walter, Edward, John, and Joseph Mendralla.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at St. Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio, with Rev. Philip Miller presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula, Ohio.
A calling hour will be observed from 11:00 AM until 12 Noon on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Church prior to the Mass.
If desired, contributions in Frances' name may be made to Our Lady of Peace Parish, 3312 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004, or to the American Heart Association.
