Geneva, Ohio - Geneva - Iris Eleanor Geil, age 89, formally of Hartsgrove passed away at Rae-Ann Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, October 19, 2025. She was the daughter of Eli A. and Idabryl (Hayford) Kananen, born on May 21, 1936 in Ashtabula. Iris graduated from Jefferson High School in 1954. She continued her education at St. Lukes Hospital in Cleveland receiving her RN license. Iris worked as a registered nurse at Ashtabula General Hospital. She married Elmer William Geil on September 24, 1960. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. Iris was a member of the Hartsgrove Community Church. Her Hobbies included gardening, baking, crafts, and spending time with her grandchildren. Iris is survived by her daughters Joyce Ritchie of Orwell, Karen (Charles) Portzer of Hartsgrove, son-in-law Wayne Ritchie of Hartsgrove, grandchildren Sarah, Wayne William, Stacie, Alyssa (Andy), Benjamin, Megan, and Kylee. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, parents, sister Elida Van Slyke and son John J. Geil. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Robin Stanley will be held at the Paine Funeral Home, Inc. 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076 on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Ray's Corners Cemetery. Visitation will take place prior to services from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A special thank you, by the family to Rae-Ann Staff and Sincere Hospice for the compassion and care given to Iris.
