Ashtabula, Ohio - James Gregory Batanian, 63, of Ashtabula, Ohio passed away at his home on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from complications of throat cancer.

He was born on September 17, 1962, in Ashtabula to the late Edward and Rosalie (Palazzo) Batanian and graduated from Edgewood High School.

James was an Auxiliary member of the Ashtabula Coast Guard and Ashtabula American Legion Post 103. He was a great drummer and performed with many bands throughout Ashtabula County over a span of 4 to 5 decades. He loved touring the open roads on his Roadster and most of all loved spending time with his kitten, Mia.

He is survived by siblings, Stephen Batanian of Venice, FL, Rosanne (Batanian) Adams of Chesterfield, VA, Susan (Batanian) Dolan of Ashtabula, OH, Christopher (Cheri) Batanian of Franklin Funace, OH, Timothy (Christine) Batanian of North Kingsville, OH and Michael Batanian of Venice, FL. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rosalie (Palazzo) Batanian; brother, Mark Batanian; nephews, Mark Gillespie and Cade Rock-Verdi; brother-in-laws, Robert Adams and Daniel Dolan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
