James R. Dana Obituary

James Richard Dana, age 90, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016, at UH-Brown Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 24, 1925, in Erie, Pa., the son of Warner John and Frances Ruth (Schreiber) Dana and has been an area resident since 1958.

A Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, with the rank of coxswain, and participated in five invasions, in both the Mediterranean and Pacific Theaters.

James was self-employed in construction for many years and retired as Building Superintendent from Kent State University, Ashtabula.

He loved music and enjoyed playing the organ and knew the words to innumerable old songs. He enjoyed bowling on his church league, camping, and traveling to his ship's yearly reunions which enabled him to see much of the country.

He was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Geneva and one of the highlights of his life was a trip to Alaska to teach Sunday School to the Yupik children.

He is survived by Marjorie, his wife of 67 years; his sons, James and Edward (Lynda) Dana; daughter, Margaret Reikowsky; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and his five brothers and four sisters.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
