Janice K. (Fortney) Fry, daughter of Howard and Audrey Fortney, born June 11, 1938, passed away in Florida on February 14, 2022, following years of debilitating health issues. Janice graduated from Harbor High School, in 1955. She then went on to receive her teaching degree from Kent State University.
She married Douglas Fry from Geneva Ohio, (also known as Red Van Dyke). They moved to Canton, Ohio and had 3 children, Michael (Shelly), William (Shayna deceased), and Patricia Lynn. Doug preceded Janice in death in 1966 after a freak medical accident. Sorrowfully, her daughter, Patricia, passed away on February 21, 2022 just one week after her death. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert (Lucille deceased) Fortney. Janice is survived by her three children, grandchild and great grandchildren; and brothers, David (Jayne) Fortney and Gregory (Martha) Fortney.
She was an English teacher at Columbus Jr. High School in the 60's, then moving to Pennsylvania to advance her education and degree work. Janice started working for the State Department of Education of Pennsylvania, by becoming a reading specialist, working directly with students with dyslexia.
After retiring in 1995, Janice and daughter, Patricia, formed a small education company to continue working with dyslexia and disadvantaged children in Florida.
Although life was not always easy Janice always had a light friendly personality and for many years was in a group with high school friends that tried to stay in touch, but age, miles, and sickness seemed to produce course changes. Janice K. (Fortney) Fry was a loving mom, a good person and will be missed by her family. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Geneva, Oho. At her request no calling hours will be observed.
