Joanne Granger

Joanne (Watson) Granger was born November 3,1936, and died July 12, 2019, after a month of trying to overcome injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Joanne, or Mrs. Granger as the students she valued called her over her 37 years at Grand Valley, loved her family, her home, and her friends. She was kind, smart, funny and she adored mysteries, especially British and true crime. She graduated from Collingwood High School in Cleveland and Fenn College (later Cleveland State). Joanne was a member of Ashtabula Retired Teachers. Hobbies included sewing, baking, vacuuming, and nagging.
Joanne was fiercely protective of her kids, and worried about them, even as adults. Since she came from a blended family, she made one of her own, with no distinction made as to how someone entered her brood-adoption, marriage, step and half siblings-she loved them all.
She is preceded in death by her beloved mother and her equally beloved step-father, Dora and Henry Alford; her deeply missed brother Gilbert; and her adored and occasionally irritating husband, David Granger on whom she blamed all of her children's stubbornness and feistiness, although anyone who knew her could see she had those traits in abundance.
Joanne is survived by her brother, Bill (Jewell) Alford; her children, Rick (Carrie) Granger, Mike (Cata) Granger, Ron (Monicha) Granger, and Dori-Ann Granger; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; assorted nieces and nephews; and a geriatric, but much spoiled, cat. She is also survived by the kindness and consideration that she gave to those around her and by the love and compassion she engendered in her family. She will be desperately missed by all who cared for her.
The family would like to thank everyone at Hillcrest Hospital for caring for Joanne, and we are especially grateful for the members of the hospice team who were so kind and thoughtful in their interactions with her and us.
A celebration of Joanne's life will be held at Paine Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell on Friday, July 19, 2019, at 7:30PM, where the family is hoping that people will tell stories about her, funny or touching. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home on Friday from 6:30PM until time of remembrance service at 7:30PM.
In lieu of flowers or casseroles, the family is asking for donations to be made in her name to the Ashtabula Protective League, 5970 Green Rd., Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004, where she acquired her spoiled cat.
