John Emery Zaback
John (Jack) Emery Zaback, 82, of The Villages, FL passed peacefully on February 9, 2020 while surrounded by his family. Jack was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of John and Ethel (Edwards) Zaback. He graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1955 and received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Notre Dame in 1959. On September 9, 1961 he married his high school sweetheart Sue Ridgway, and together they celebrated 58 years of marriage. An officer in the National Guard, he served active duty and in the reserves from 1960-1968. Jack's working career spanned nearly 50 years including his time at the Zaback Funeral Home, as partner at McDonald & Company Investments, and President of Society Bank of Eastern Ohio. An active member of his community, he was a campaign chairman for the United Way and the American Cancer Society. He enjoyed time spent as a member of the Elks Club and the Rotary Club. He was a lifelong parishioner at Mother of Sorrows in Ashtabula, and most recently at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in The Villages. Beyond anything, Jack's greatest joy came from being with family and friends. He loved them them all, and they loved him. He was a wonderful husband, grandfather, father, brother, and friend. Jack is survived by his wife Sue along with his three sons, Jay, Tom, Chris (Maureen), his sister Mary Jane Klepek, his brother Jerry (Pat), nine grandchildren - Sara, Maura, Erica, Katie, Thomas, Andrew, Mara, Cara, Emmy, and one great grandchild, Olivia. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Zaback, his daughter Mary Kay Greenwood, and his brother-in-law Frank Klepek. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 1:00 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wildwood FL. Jack was one of the good guys. He kind and smart and knew how to tell a story. Jack made me smile each and every time I encountered him. My condolences to you, Sue, and the great kids you and Jack raised together.

Jack was one my best friends in high school. He was a tough center on the football team. I was always jealous of his trips to Alaska in the summers between our sophomore and junior years. You are in better place my old friend.

Jack was one of the best volunteers I have ever worked with. Both for CDC and United Way. I use him as an example of effective and caring leadership. So sorry for your loss but we were blessed by his presence.
